I grew up as the big sister. My sister is three years younger than I, and my brother is only fourteen months younger than her. I insert myself into their lives in any way I can; it's just what we do as the oldest sibling.

When my brother bought the ring, we all said "FINALLY." Cody and Grace have been a thing for as long as most of us can remember, and before that, her family had always been a part of our family's life. They go together like two peas in a pod. Seriously. I can't believe someone out there is willing to put up with my brother- bless her soul. Grace is talented, kind, beautiful, and fun, and I am so glad I got to be there to celebrate with them on this perfect day.

I have to say, Cody planned out the day pretty well. Earlier that day I met Kai, the new pup. We had him all ready for his big debut.

Cody and Grace had been drooling over lab puppies, and Cody finally found "the one."He told Grace they were going out for their anniversary dinner, and stopped at a nearby park for a sunset walk before their reservation.

My family, Grace's family, and some of their friends were all set up in the park waiting. The sun was setting, and everyone was anxious for the happy couples arrival.

In my eyes, the story of the proposal ends up being perfect because it is imperfect. The whole time we had been in place, no one else had walked across that bridge. As Grace and Cody approached, of course there were three other families that were about to walk across. We could see Cody stop and take a stutter step, trying to delay their walk so that they would have alone time. Finally, they crossed and Kai was released on the bridge (all of us praying he didn't decide to plunge into the water with the ring). Kai looked scared, Grace looked thrilled to see a puppy, and Cody looked nervous as hell. Finally, Grace realized what was going on.

I'm not sure it was Cody's nerves or if the fact that the ring was tied SO TIGHT to Kai's collar, but he couldn't get it off. We all watched (painfully) as Cody struggled to remove the ring, and you really couldn't help but laugh. Leave it to Poppa Lamp to pull out a pocket knife and help him uncut the ring so he could actually, you know, propose to the lady.

Overall, it was beautiful, and perfectly imperfect; just the way it should be.
